01
Decide what kind of visit you are booking
A renovation or hospitality project can be ready for supplier research long before its final site survey. The question is not simply whether to travel now. It is which decision the visit is expected to make.
If the only objective is an exact cabinet price or a production-ready order, an early visit may be premature. Request written information first and reserve local comparison time for choices that can change a named project decision.
| Visit purpose | Useful outcome | Do not treat it as |
|---|---|---|
| Early discovery | Compare product types, finishes, comfort and storage approaches. | A final supplier choice or room-fit approval. |
| Project-specific shortlist | Ask shortlisted suppliers how they would address named rooms and identify missing inputs. | A final quote on an incomplete scope. |
| Order preparation | Review controlled drawings, exact item scope and written commercial terms. | Ready to proceed before site dimensions and professional reviews are complete. |
02
Bring enough context to make the day useful
You do not need perfect drawings for a discovery visit. You do need a brief that lets a supplier understand the intended room and lets you compare answers later. Keep the status of every input explicit.
- Give each guest room, kitchen run, wardrobe or vanity a separate room and item code.
- Bring current plans or 3D views, marking concept dimensions, openings, site conditions and appliances as provisional where necessary.
- Show material and finish direction, visible details, intended quantities and any non-negotiable requirements.
- Separate one-off pieces from repeated room items without assuming a supplier will accept a single custom unit.
- Write the decision question: comfort, finish, storage layout, sample detail or the supplier's proposed drawing process.
- Name the project location and the person who will later confirm site dimensions, technical suitability and final selections.
03
Use supplier meetings to test the handoff
For custom work, ask each shortlisted supplier what is needed before they can prepare a controlled drawing or quotation on a defined basis. Record who prepares drawings, who checks site measurements, how materials and hardware are identified, which elements are included or excluded, how revisions are approved and what order conditions apply to the exact item.
A showroom conversation is not proof of manufacturing capability or a promise of availability. Confirm any factory meeting directly with the supplier. Do not infer access from a fair contact.
For freestanding furniture, the local question is different: sit on the sofa, review visible finish and proportions, and capture the exact model or sample reference. A display photo cannot establish hidden construction, final material, quality or delivery condition.
04
Leave with a shortlist and a hold-for-measurement list
Each serious option should have a room or item code, supplier and product reference, photograph, visible choice reviewed, written response, sample status and next contact. Keep a second record of exact dimensions, appliance and fixture models, site interfaces, final finish and hardware schedule, drawing revision and the responsible approver.
Mark every lead compare again, request written details, hold for site survey or remove. This prevents a preliminary finish choice from being mistaken for permission to fabricate.
| Record after the visit | Decision it supports |
|---|---|
| Shortlist with item code, reference, written answer and open question | Whether the option deserves later technical and commercial review. |
| Unconfirmed dimensions, interfaces, drawings and approval owner | What the project team must resolve before a custom order. |
| Next action and named owner | Who obtains the missing evidence and when the buyer can compare again. |
05
Separate product discovery from purchase approval
A sourcing visit cannot verify final room fit, structural or installation suitability, destination compliance, product certification, supplier performance or shipment condition. These depend on the exact product, current drawings, site survey, relevant documentation and qualified professionals.
An incomplete brief also cannot support a meaningful comparison between a local installed contractor price and a China product-only quote. Keep installation, freight, other excluded scopes and the destination professional's review visible before judging project economics. Buyer approval remains a separate, written step.
06
Use the Canton Fair as a separate discovery channel
The official organizer lists furniture, building and decorative materials, and sanitary/bathroom equipment in Phase 2 of the 140th Canton Fair, October 23–27, 2026. If you are attending, a Foshan day can be planned as separate buyer-side follow-up for selected furniture and material decisions, not as an extension of the fair.
VELA Home Global is an independent Foshan sourcing service, not the Canton Fair organizer, official guide, ticket or badge provider, or exhibitor. Within an agreed scope, VELA can help plan a focused local route, support English-Chinese supplier conversations and organize comparison notes. Fair access, exhibitor or factory meetings, supplier availability or performance, prices, quality, inspection, logistics and purchasing outcomes are not guaranteed.
Buyer questions
Frequently asked questions
Is a Foshan visit useful before final measurements?
Yes, when the purpose is discovery or a project-specific shortlist and you have a provisional room brief. Wait for confirmed dimensions before treating custom work as ready to price or approve for production.
Can a supplier give a final cabinet price from an early floor plan?
Ask for an indicative scope and its assumptions. A final comparable quotation needs confirmed dimensions, materials, hardware, inclusions, drawings and delivery terms.
What should I take home from an early Foshan visit?
Keep a room-coded shortlist with exact product references, photos, written supplier answers, missing measurements, decision owners and a next action for each item. It is not an order approval.
Is VELA Home Global part of the Canton Fair?
No. VELA is an independent Foshan sourcing service, not the organizer, official guide, ticket or badge provider, or exhibitor.
